Houlton tennis in play

The Houlton High School tennis teams were in action last week, with only one home match.
On Monday in Fort Kent, the girls’ tennis team was defeated 5-0.
In singles play: Lauren Doak (FK) def. Tessa Winship, 8-0; Kelsey Pelletier (FK) def. Calleigh Sullivan, 8-1; and Alexa Pelletier (FK) def. Piper Flewelling, 8-2. Doubles: Amelia Guimond and Sam Dubay (FK) def. Sarah Delano and Emily Mooers, 8-5; and Brooke Jandreau and Rudy Martin (FK) def. Janelle Levesque and June Choi, 8-4.

In their second match, Fort Kent won 4-1, as Houlton’s doubles team of Lauren Hogan and Lexi Bartlett topped Fort Kent’s Caitlyn Gray/Cassie McLeod, 8-6.
Singles: Doak (FK) def. Winship, 8-0; Pelletier (FK) def. Sullivan, 8-0; and Alexa Pelletier (FK) def. Flewelling,  8-2. Doubles: Guimond and Dubay (FK) def. Delano and Mooers, 8-1.
Last Tuesday, the visiting Van Buren girls shut out Houlton, 5-0.
Singles: Parise Rossignol (VB) def. Winship, 8-0; Courtney Parent (VB) def. Sullivan, 8-0; and Chantel Deveau (VB) def. Flewelling, 8-5. Doubles: Felicia Bouchard and Jacinta Deschaines (VB) def. Levesque and Delano, 8-2; and Alexis Ouellette and Isabel Parent (VB) def. Mooers and Hogan, 8-6.
At Lincoln last Wednesday, the Mattanawcook Academy girls topped Houlton, 3-2.
Singles: Meridith Blessard (MA) def. Winship, 8-0; Leah Susen (MA) def. Sullivan, 8-1; and Emily Robinson (MA) def. Levesque, 8-3. Doubles: Mooers and Delano (H) def. Ava Broderick-Harley Rogers,  8-4; and Flewelling and Choi (H) def. Paige Hesseltine-Ali Hardy, 8-2.
In their second match, Mattanawcook Academy defeated Houlton, 3-2.
Singles: Blessard (MA) def. Winship, 8-0; Susen (MA) def. Sullivan, 8-1; and Robinson (MA) def. Levesque, 8-3. Doubles: Mooers and Delano (H) def. Broderick and Rogers, 8-4; and Flewelling and Choi (H) def. Hesseltine and Hardy, 8-2.
In boys’ action, the Shiretowners defeated Fort Kent, 3-2, on Monday.
Singles: Ryan Chasse (FK) def Hunter McLaughlin (H), 8-4; Lance Jandreau (FK) def Lucas Grant (H), 8-6; and Ethan Nickerson (H) def Eric Deschene (FK), 8-3. Doubles: Josh Sullivan and Steven Philips (H) def.  Tito Naranja and Kamran Husain (FK), 9-8 (7-3); and Chris Crane and Dakota Gramour (H) def David Roy and Rowan Stamp (FK), 8-3.
In their second match, Houlton picked up another 3-2 victory.
Singles: Chasse (FK) def. McLaughlin, 8-0; Jandreau (FK) def. Grant, 8-3; and Nickerson (H) def. Deschene, 8-1. Doubles: Sullivan and Robby Woods (H) def. Naranja and Husain, 8-5; and Phillips and Crane (H) def. Stamp and Roy, 8-4.
Last Tuesday in Houlton, the Shires blanked the Crusaders, 5-0.
Singles: Nickerson (H) def. Peter Rioux, 8-0; Grant def. Bradlee Roy, 8-1; McLaughlin (H) def. Thomas Lajoie, 8-2; doubles: Woods and Phillips (H) def. Travis Labelle and Max Boulier 8-1; and Crane and Gramour def. Noah Lajoie and Paul Rioux, 8-2.
