CMS boys undefeated through 5 games
The Caribou Middle School moved to 5-0 with two more wins last week.
The Vikings bested Houlton, 9-8, coming back from a 5-0 deficit to do so. Spencer McDuffie came on in relief and pitched a solid game, limiting Houlton while the Caribou bats came to life and erupted for five runs in the fourth inning to tie the game.
Caribou then took a 6-5 lead in the sixth, only to surrender a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to trail once again. The Vikes rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh and Houlton got to within a run and had the bases loaded, but a popout ended the contest.
McDuffie struck out five batters, walked one and scattered four hits in four strong innings of work. Offensively, Caribou was led by Josh Quist, who had 2 hits with 3 RBI. Noah Hixon and Bailey Griffeth each had two hits and 2 RBI for the winners.
In a 5-3 win over Presque Isle, Caribou’s pitching and defense led the charge. Camden Huck went seven innings on the mound, striking out six batters, walking two and scattering six hits. Caribou batters faced some tough pitching by Presque Isle pitcher Jaren Winger, who struck out 11 Caribou batters, but the Vikings managed enough offense to come out on top.
Huck helped his own cause by getting two hits and knocking in a run. Caribou first baseman Matt Nadeau had a hit and 2 RBI, while Tyler Wright, Noah Frost, Hixon and Quist all had hits.
