OAKFIELD, Maine — The Maine State Police and state Fire Marshal’s Office are seeking the public’s assistance with an ongoing investigation in Oakfield.

In the early morning hours of Thursday, May 8, the Oakfield Fire Department was called to a structure fire at 623 River Road. Later in the morning, after the fire was doused, state police and the state Fire Marshall’s Office was called to respond after it was determined there were copper pipes and tools missing from the residence and the cause of the fire seemed suspicious.
The home is a summer residence owned by Shirley Smith of Arizona and was insured. The theft and fire investigations are ongoing and the state police and Fire Marshall’s Office encourage anyone with information or traveling the River Road early this morning to call the State Police Barracks in Houlton at 532-5400 and ask to speak to Trooper Dennis Quint or Investigator Ed Archer.
DEP assisted Oakfield Fire with the cleanup at the scene.
