A Caribou man is part of the inaugural class of inductees into the Maine Principals’ Association Hall of Excellence.
In association with Lifetouch School Portraits, the MPA announced the first class recently and the inductees were recognized at a ceremony held May 20 at the Augusta Civic Center.
Bob White has contributed significantly with distinction to Maine interscholastic activities for over 45 years. His legacy as an educator, soccer official and rules interpreter is well founded.
After graduating from Springfield College (Mass.) in 1956, he began what became an incredible journey. Beyond touching and mentoring the lives of many students in “The County,” he established his stamp on the sports scene, particularly soccer. He not only officiated a combination of over 1,000 soccer contests, he led as the state soccer rules interpreter for 30-plus years.
White has been recognized at the local, state and national levels. His contributions at the national level are many but his foresight to keep activity programs in schools was most notable. White has received many honors for his service to Maine youth and Maine interscholastics and in 2012 was inducted into the NFHS Hall of Fame.
Other inductees are former Lawrence High School basketball standout Cindy Blodgett, basketball coaches Bob Brown and Dwight Littlefield, longtime Brewer track and field coach David Jeffrey, athletic administrator Bob Lahey, former MPA executive directors Horace McGowan and Marty Ryan and basketball commissioner Peter Webb.
The Maine Principals’ Association is a professional association representing Maine’s K-12 principals and assistant principals. The association dates its history back to 1921 and focuses its work on promoting the principalship, supporting principals as educational leaders, and promoting and administering interscholastic activities in grades 9-12.
