PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — How tourism can be an economic engine for the region will be the focus of an upcoming summit hosted by Aroostook County Tourism (ACT).
The summit will be held Wednesday, May 28 from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle.
“Just about every business in Aroostook County benefits when tourism dollars come into the region,” said Jon Gulliver, tourism developer for Northern Maine Development Commission. “At the summit we will discuss Aroostook’s marketing plan for 2014-15, the Maine Office of Tourism will be on hand to look at their five-year strategic plan, plus show business owners how using visitmaine.com and visitaroostook.com can help their bottom line without costing them one cent.”
In addition, there will be an update on the World Acadian Congress, and how the Nordic Heritage Center can — and is — playing a role in tourism in the region.
WCXU Channel X Radio is serving as a strategic partner for the event and has donated $250 of advertising to be offered as a door prize to one of the attendees.
“The tourism summit is an opportunity for individuals in the tourism industry to network with each other and discuss similar issues and concerns they are experiencing in their business,” said Gulliver. “Communicating with others in the industry creates new ideas and encourages people to work together to resolve some of the challenges and obstacles that many are faced with every day.”
The summit is free and lunch will be served.
