Southern Aroostook Community School’s National Honor Society chapter inducted 9 new members on April 9, 2014. The group included three seniors and six juniors.
Sable Altvater, Trenton Cullinan, and Kaylan McNally received their pins and certificates, representing the class of 2014.
For the class of 2015, Kylie Dunphy, Cameron Landry, Cassidy Lyons, Jessica Nye, Matthew Tarr and Parker Walker joined the group of 11 seniors to become a strong and effective society for service and leadership.
During the current school year, the NHS members have attended two county meetings, and some planned to participate as mentors for the Special Olympics on May 16 in Presque Isle. They have held a blood drive for the Red Cross, assisted with Christmas for the Hope & Justice project women and children, and served many hours in individual service projects in the communities of the district.
The constitution and by-laws for the SACS chapter indicate that students must have a 90 average over at least five semesters to be considered for induction. They also have to achieve a 3.0 average rating from the faculty council to become eligible for membership.
Students must maintain their academic standing in order to stay members, as well as support the other requirements of character, leadership and service.
