Marine’s Prayer

1941 to 1946 South Pacific World War II
By Bucky Logan

Dusk was falling on the Pacific
All was strangely still
In the moments before battle
In a foxhole on Bougainville.
Faces were tense with waiting,
But a boy brought new hope their way
As he fearlessly told his buddies
As they knelt to God to pray.
I had a little talk with the Lord
I had a little talk with the Lord
Here on a battle-weary island
I had a little talk with the Lord.
I asked the Lord to send down some rain,
To give me strength to stand up again,
And right then my heart began to smile
When I had a little talk with the Lord.
For the Lord spoke!
Clouds broke
And thunder came crashing around,
And I knew the Lord had blessed me,
For the rain came tumbling down.
So have a little talk with the Lord
Have faith and you’ll share his rewards
For he gave me strength to fight for my land
When I had a little talk with the Lord.
So have a little talk with the Lord
And when I go to heaven
To St. Peter I will tell
Another Marine reporting in
I’ve served my time in Hell!!
