Susan Prescott has returned home after spending several weeks in Asheville, North Carolina with her cousin, Kay Butler. While there, they spent some time touring the Smokey Mountains in Tennesee and the also the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia.
Kay returned to Island Falls with Susan to spend some time in the area. Sarah and Greg Douglas have returned home after spending the winter months at their home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and now plan to get the golf clubs out and enjoy the game of golf here at VAJOWA golf course and also swimming at Vacationland Estates.
I am still throwing out the birdseed to all my little birds and trying to scare off the persistent squirrels who are still in their pursuit of all the sunflower seeds. I still have lots of gold finch and now an occasional red-breasted grosbeak shows up.
I have started mowing my large back yard and hope it will attract the deer to come and graze again. I haven’t seen any deer for about 10 days and am wondering if they will return and maybe bring any new fawns with them. In the past we have had many new fawns appear in June and July and it is some entertaining to watch them frolic and chase one another all over the lawn.
I did see a fat, little brown ground hog making his way toward my old barn one day last week and wonder if that will be his new hideaway.
