The Francis Malcolm Science Center, located at 776 Houlton Rd. in Easton, will hold an open house on Saturday, May 31, from noon to 3 p.m.
Activities will include: hands-on science activities, a scavenger hunt, model rocket launch, planetarium show entitled “Voyager Encounters” and an ocean touch-tank experience. Light refreshments will be served. Mark your calendar and plan to join the fun!
Osgood inducted into Sigma Sigma
Michelle Osgood was inducted into the Phi chapter of Sigma Sigma Phi national honorary osteopathic service fraternity at Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) in Harrogate, Tenn., in April.
The objectives and purposes of Sigma Sigma Phi are to further the science of osteopathic medicine and its standards of practice, to improve the scholastic standing and promote a higher degree of fellowship among its students, to bring about a closer relationship and understanding between the student bodies and the officials and members of the faculties of our colleges, and to foster allegiance to the American Osteopathic Association and to perpetuate these principles and the teachings through the maintenance and development of this organization. The Phi chapter of LMU-DCOM selects new members every spring based on their scholastic achievement, leadership and community service.
State FFA Convention
On, Wednesday May 14, seven FFA members, along with their advisor, departed Easton to attend the FFA state convention in Orono. Those attending were: Carson Flewelling, Jason Gurley, Zack Lamoreau, Ethan Luciano, Cater Mazerolle, Brandon Quimby, Jordan White and Advisor Kevin Marquis.
Members competed in agriculture mechanics, environment and natural resources, extemporaneous public speaking, farm business management and tractor driving skills.
Carson Flewelling placed third in the welding portion of ag mechanics, as well as third in tractor driving skills; Jason Gurley won the extemporaneous speaking skills event; Jordan White won the extemporaneous speaking event; and Easton’s overall team placed second in farm business management. Great job, gentleman!
Students’ play a hit
“Princess Whatsername” was performed Friday, May 16, by 55 Easton Elementary and Junior High students. It was about a princess who is lost in the misty forest but does not remember who she is or where she is from. She meets up with many characters: Rumpelstiltskin, Goldilocks, Snow White, just to name a few. Where there is a princess there is always a prince, but he is always one step behind in finding his princess. It was a fun play with lots of interesting characters! The play was directed by Debbie Rooney.
School registration
The Easton School Department is now accepting registration for children entering kindergarten or ECP in the fall of 2014. All Easton children who are 5 years old on or before Oct. 15 are eligible for enrollment in the kindergarten class; children who are 4 years old on or before Oct. 15 are eligible for the ECP (Early Childhood Program) class. Please call the Easton Elementary School at 488-7700 as soon as possible to register your child for either of the above classes.
Major League
The Major League baseball program is co-ed and open to ages 10-12. Games will be played on Monday and Wednesday evenings. The first practice will be held on Wednesday, May 28, and games will start (tentatively) the week of June 16. We must have a minimum of 12 children signed-up in order to run this program.
Minor League
The Minor League baseball program is co-ed and open to ages 7-9. Games will be played on mostly Thursday evenings. Practices will begin Thursday, May 29, and games will start mid June. Game schedules will be printed in the summer program book. We must have a minimum of 10 children to run this program. We are in need of a coach(es) for this team!

Wednesday, May 28 — Junior Activities at the Hall from 9:30-11 a.m.
Kindergarten swim at Gentile Hall at UMPI. The bus departs at 1 p.m. and the kids will ride the after-school bus home.
Summer registration from 3-4:15 p.m. at the Town Office.
First Major League practice at 5:30 p.m. on the field near the tennis courts.
Thursday, May 29 — Adult trip to Sunrise Farms in Woodland. The bus will depart from the Manor at 10 a.m. Participatns are responsible for the cost if their lunch.
After-school cooking at the Manor until 4:15 p.m. We will be serving the residents.
First Minor League practice at 5:30 p.m. on the field near the tennis courts.
Friday, May 30 — Junior Activities from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Hall.
Sr. hotdog roast in the recreation room at the Manor starting at 11 a.m. The cost is $3.
Monday, June 2 — Adult barbecue with group from Washburn in the recreation room at 11:30 a.m. in the recreation room at the Manor. Please bring a salad to share with the group.
Tuesday, June 3 — Swim lessons at Gentile Hall. The bus departs at 2:45 p.m. and will return by 4:30 p.m. Pre-registration required.
Summer registration from 4:30-5:45 p.m. at the Town Office.
Wednesday, June 4 — Junior Activities at the Hall from 9:30-11 a.m.
