PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Aroostook ‘House of Comfort’ will host its second annual charity Golf Classic on Saturday, June 14 at the Presque Isle Country Club. Proceeds will go toward the construction of the only palliative and hospice care home north of Auburn.
The event is a four-person scramble and kicks off with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Registration and check-in begin at 7:30 a.m. An awards and recognition ceremony will be held at the club’s restaurant at the 19th hole immediately following the tournament.
“This Golf Classic is a wonderful way to raise money for a great charity that will help build a facility for end-of-life patients in their time of need,” said Rick Duncan, president and founder of Aroostook Hospice Foundation. Formerly the Logan P. Graves Golf Tournament, this year’s Golf Classic challenge is partially underwritten by platinum sponsor, Whited-Peterbilt.
The event costs $75 per person and includes light breakfast, coffee, soda, hotdogs on the course, a Titleist golf ball and a Golf Classic golf shirt. Cash prizes will be awarded to men and ladies as follows: first place, $440; second place, $360; and third place, $280. Cash awards for team gross, team net, longest drive in fairway and closest to the pin will also be handed out. A $10,000 prize, sponsored by North State Transportation, LLC, will be awarded for a hole-in-one.
The Aroostook ‘House of Comfort,’ a six-bed, state-of-the-art facility, will provide palliative and end-of-life care in a comfortable, homelike setting.  “This event will help us get one step closer to opening our doors,” said Duncan. The target date for groundbreaking is in the summer of 2015.
