Triathlon events slated June 28

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Saturday, June 28 will be an action-packed day, where athletes ages 6 and older will swim, bike and run to achieve their personal fitness goals with two premier USA Triathlon-sanctioned triathlon events.
In its third year, Tri Aroostook will see 125 adult athletes, ages 16 and older, compete at the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Gentile Hall. Tri Aroostook is for the individual athlete, as well as relay teams of two or three members. The event will begin at 8 a.m., with a 525-yard swim in Gentile Hall’s pool, followed by a 10.25-mile scenic bike ride, and finished with a 3.1-mile run on the trails adjacent to UMPI.  Awards will be given for overall winners, age groups, relay teams, and for fun.
New this year, Tri Aroostook Kids will see 125 youth athletes, ages 6 to 15 years, also compete at UMPI.  Tri Aroostook Kids is an individual race, with the focus of building on sports already known, while emphasizing fun and healthy lifestyles. The event will begin at 1:30 p.m., with variable event distances based on age of the athlete. The courses are closed to traffic, designed to provide a safe event, while remaining on the campus. Each athlete will finish the same as the adults, celebrating their accomplishments.
Two free training sessions are provided: swimming on Saturday, June 7 beginning at 1 p.m. at Gentile Hall; and a combination bike/run on Saturday, June 21 beginning at 1 p.m. at Gentile Hall. Attending both of these training sessions will provide each athlete with the knowledge of the event. Awards will be given for overall winners, age groups and for fun.
Tri Aroostook and Tri Aroostook Kids is a collaboration of CompetitorME, the University of Maine at Presque Isle and TAMC. Volunteers are needed to ensure these events are safe, fun, and successful.
Event or volunteer registration for both triathlons can be found at www.competitorme.com, www.facebook.com/competitorme or at Active.com and searching for Tri Aroostook and Tri Aroostook Kids triathlons. There is no race day registration for either event.
