PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Probus Club of Aroostook met at Northern Maine Community College’s Reed Commons May 15, with 19 members present.
Mark Carter, a Presque Isle native who has been involved in humanitarian projects for many years, was the guest speaker. Carter, a licensed architect who has worked in the field for 33 years and privately for the past 21, is also the founder and president of Neighbors First, Inc. The organization is dedicated to serving others in need by providing support to families with specific building construction projects.
Carter has organized and led numerous volunteer construction projects throughout northern Maine, Central America and South America.
He showed a video and explained some of the projects and how they affect peoples’ lives. His team has been to Guatemala, Nicaragua and Bogata, Columbia and try to do two trips a year.
With the help of financial donations, Neighbors First, Inc. is able to fund meaningful construction projects which provide relief and hope to local and international neighbors who endure hardship and poverty.
Also during the meeting, the club welcomed its newest members — Marilyn and Russell Allen of Presque Isle. The next meeting is planned for June 19 at 10 a.m., also at Reed Commons.
