City Council seeking input from voters

To the editor:
The city of Caribou, in order to maintain the current level of services, will have to increase your taxes again this year. Therefore, the city council is asking for your help in determining where we go from here.
Tuesday, June 10th is Election Day. Besides being a Congressional primary, there is a council seat open, and because there were no candidates running for that seat, you will be asked to vote your choice by writing in the name of that person.
You will also be asked to vote whether to approve or not to approve the school budget. This budget makes up a large portion of the city budget and has a direct impact on your tax bill. There seems to be some misconception among taxpayers that the city council makes decisions on the school budget. It does not.
The city council has decided to set up a table in the exit area at the polls on Tuesday. There will be members of the council there throughout the day, and we will be handing out a “services survey” form to the voters. You will be asked to give opinions on the various services offered by the city of Caribou. We will have an area where you can sit and fill out the form, then deposit it in a box that will be available. You do not have to sign your name.
Council members will also be available should you want to speak with them directly.
Make sure to vote on Election Day. And please take a few minutes to stop by and complete this survey. We need your input. It will give city administrators an idea of where you, the taxpayer, want your tax dollars spent.
