SACS Elementary supports cause

SACS elementary went BLUE on April 2 in support of World Autism Awareness Day. Many of the classrooms were decorated in support of Autism Awareness.
SACS 3rd graders watched State Troopers Dennis Quint and Jake Ferland show how alcohol can affect the human brain. Grades 3, 4 and 5 spent the afternoon with the Troopers as part of a presentation following their eight week alcohol prevention curriculum during guidance class. Troopers discussed the effects of alcohol on the body as well as the dangers of drunk driving and substance use.
During guidance class the students at KES learned the importance of supporting all students regardless of their disability. We discussed what it meant to have autism and how we can support someone who we may perceive to be different from ourselves. The entire student body copied their hands for our autism bulletin board.
Katahdin Elementary students have been very busy this year celebrating uniqueness. During guidance class students worked on activities that highlighted it is ok to be themselves. There are members of the civil rights team who meet after school to plan fun activities for all students.
