DYER BROOK, Maine — A Dyer Brook man who was arrested and charged last year with unlawful sexual touching after an incident with a woman that he met while she was visiting her boyfriend at the Aroostook County Jail has pleaded guilty to the crime.
Assistant District Attorney Kurt Kafferlin said May 14 that John Walker, 66, was found guilty of the misdemeanor crime in Aroostook County Superior Court in Houlton in late February. He will have to pay a $500 fine. He will not have to register as a sex offender, Kafferlin said.
Walker will not be subject to probation or have any conditions or restrictions upon him.
Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety, said at the time of Walker’s arrest that he had clergy visitation rights at the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton that gave him access to the venue. It was there that he met his victim, the woman who was visiting her boyfriend.
McCausland said that Walker was providing “spiritual counseling” to the 30-year-old at his home, where the alleged offense occurred.
The woman reported the incident to state police and Walker was arrested by state police at his home.
