Kaysie Pelletier of Caribou, a second-year pharmacy student at Husson University, received notification that she has been selected to be a participant in the Rite Aid Corporation Summer Internship program. It is an eight-week program held at Rite-Aid headquarters in Camp Hill, Pa. Pelletier is the first student from a Maine school of pharmacy to be selected for this program.
“Ms. Pelletier is an exceptional student that will benefit greatly from this program. The Husson School of Pharmacy’s vision is to improve rural healthcare and when she returns in the fall, this program and the State will greatly benefit from her new knowledge,” according to her advisor, Dr. Eric Jarvi.
Pelletier was one of a handful selected from over 1,000 applicants. To be eligible she needed to complete her second year of pharmacy school, have worked for Rite Aid as a pharmacy intern, receive a recommendation from regional management, as well as a letter of recommendation from a faculty member.
“I am honored to have been selected and very excited to see how the profession of pharmacy is impacted at the corporate level. It is a long way from Caribou, but I know I have received the education needed to bring value to the table,” said Pelletier.
The focus of the internship will be on the evaluation of the procedures and protocols involved in third party reimbursement: this will include insurance as well as state and national government reimbursement programs. Understanding the process of how and why procedures and protocols are developed and how they impact health care are huge, especially in Maine, which is one of the oldest and most rural states, program leaders said.
