CARIBOU, Maine — Officials with the Caribou Middle School recently announced the Students of the Month for April.
The grade-six teachers have selected Abbey Violette and Heather DeMerchant as students of the month.     Teachers agree that Abbey Violette is a very conscientious student, who is always dedicated to her studies. She participates actively in class, and is always prepared with the necessary information and knowledge to contribute to discussions. “Abbey is a very cooperative and respectful student, who is always willing to work in various groups or assist her teachers,” her teachers said. “She cares about improving the social climate of our school, and is also an avid reader. She is a pleasure to have in class.”
Sixth-grade teachers said that Heather DeMerchant is an active, well-rounded student. She plays the flute in the Caribou Middle School band, and is currently a member of the CMS softball team and the Sleeper’s Little League baseball team. “Heather is a quiet and attentive student in class, who always stays focused on her work regardless of any distractions around her,” her teachers said, adding how much they appreciate her positive attitude, and her willingness to help others whenever needed.

The seventh-grade teachers have selected Olivia Austin, Sydney Thompson and Benjamin Hanning as their Students of the Month.
Teachers agree that Sydney Thompson is an active student at Caribou Middle School where she participates in soccer, basketball, cross country skiing, and softball. She also is a member of the band as well as the Builder’s Club. “Sydney is a role model student and always strives to do her best,” her teachers said.
Seventh-grade teachers said that Olivia Austin is a very busy student who enjoys many extra-curricular activities at Caribou Middle School. “Olivia has been active on the cross country, tennis, and cross country ski teams. Olivia is a tremendously hard worker academically,” her teachers said. “Olivia has high expectations of herself when it comes to schoolwork, school citizenship, and responsibility.”
Seventh-grade teachers said that Benjamin Hanning is an honor roll student who displays responsibility for his learning and is always committed to doing his best. “He is self-motivated and is very conscientious about completing his assignments neat and carefully,” they said. “Ben is respectful to his teachers and peers and regularly engages in acts of kindness throughout CMS, while having a positive attitude and the desire to succeed.”
The eighth-grade faculty have selected Sierra Ouellette and Emerson Duplissie-Cyr as their students of the month.
Teachers say that Sierra Ouellette was chosen because of her positive attitude toward schoolwork, classes, teachers, and her classmates. Sierra is a very active student at Caribou Middle School participating on the soccer, cheering, and softball teams. She is also a member of the school band.
Outside of school, Sierra participates in the Maine Dance Academy, Girl Scouts, and also volunteers her time at the Halfway Home Pet Rescue. She also enjoys babysitting during vacations, weekends, and throughout the summer. The eighth-grade teachers explained that they selected Sierra as student of the month “because she is a great example for all at Caribou Middle School with her fabulous work ethic, and her treatment of others makes her a great role model.”
The eighth-grade teachers said that Emerson Duplissie-Cyr is a student who has been well respected by staff and students for both his academic and athletic ability. “Emerson is consistently an honor student and gives his best to his coaches in all the sports he participates in here at CMS; his commitment and will to succeed is evident and helps drive him to success,” teachers said, adding that Emerson is an exceptional student and takes his studies very seriously. “He is a positive example to his fellow classmates. Emerson is always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.” Emerson is also a member of the band and chorus. “For all these reasons and many more, the staff takes great pride in recognizing Emerson for all his accomplishments.”
The teachers congratulated all of April’s Students of the Month.
