FORT KENT, Maine – Current University of Maine at Fort Kent nursing students received honors recently as 32 were inducted into the Nursing Honor Society and 38 were honored at the Nurse Pinning Ceremony, held May 9 at Fox Auditorium.
The theme of the ceremony was “Nurses Leading The Way: Transforming Health Care Through Leadership.” The afternoon ceremony began with inspirational words from Candace Gagnon, a senior nursing student. Fellow senior Emily Cassidy also addressed the group.
Dr. Jenny Radsma, professor of nursing, introduced the nursing students who were inducted into the UMFK Nursing Honor Society. Local students earning the recognition were Timothy T. Bair (Caribou); Kelly J. Bell (Presque Isle); Miranda J. Donovan (Masardis); Gaige P. Flewelling (Houlton); Travis L. Norsworthy (Fort Fairfield); Dylan T. Ouellette (Caribou); Heather M. Pelletier (Woodland); and Jonathan B. Post (Chapman). All students have excelled in the four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at UMFK and are very active in campus activities. Each student was presented an honor cord, which they will wear when they graduate, and a membership certificate.
Radsma announced the candidates for pinning. The nursing pin signifies the completion of the bachelor of science in nursing degree and also symbolizes the honor and responsibility held as a professional nurse. Local BSN students receiving their pins included Charlene Bartlett (Stockholm); Stephanie M. Drost (Woodland); Jessica M. Holmes (Portage); Emmaly S. Jurson (Hodgdon); Elizabeth A. Morneault (Eagle Lake); and Jonathan B. Post (Presque Isle).
