June is “Adopt a Shelter Cat Month” and as you may have heard, the Central Aroostook Humane Society is again packed with cats and kittens ready and waiting for their forever home! Through April 2014 we have taken in approximately 161 cats and adopted approximately 92.
Our cat adoption fees are $40 for an altered cat and $30 for an unaltered cat or kitten. All unaltered animals require a $100 deposit, which is refundable once a certificate of spay or neuter has been received. This deposit is required by the state of Maine.

As always, you can visit our website at www.centralaroostookhumanesociety.org to see the cats available for adoption or you can visit our shelter located at 26 Cross St. in Presque Isle to find the cat that is right for you and your family.
On Saturday, June 14, we will also have cats that are currently available for adoption with us at the 1875 Vera Estey House Museum located at 16 Third St. in Presque Isle.
The Presque Isle Historical Society has generously offered to provide guided tours of this historical home to benefit our shelter. Guided tours are approximately one hour in length and will begin at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. In lieu of the regular $2 admission fee, the cost of admission for a tour is some type of supplies for our shelter.
Here is a list of suggested supplies: bleach, laundry detergent, towels (new or used in good condition), paper towels, dish soap, Fabuloso cleaner, non-scoopable cat litter, Purina Dog or Cat Chow, and gift cards with which to purchase supplies.
Due to limited space, reservations are required and will be limited to about 20 people per tour. You can reserve your spot by calling 762-1151 and leaving your name, phone number, number in party and time of desired tour.
This is a great and inexpensive opportunity for anyone to learn about a wonderful piece of local history and to support the animal shelter. Both members of the Presque Isle Historical Society and Central Aroostook Humane Society will be on hand all day to visit with you and to share in our rich local history.

Becky is a 6-week-old female kitten with five siblings, and she loves playing with them while curiously exploring her new foster home through the Halfway Home Pet Rescue. “Becky is an unusually loving kitten and will come quickly to be the first kitten on your lap,” said HHPR President Norma Milton, who added that Becky is healthy, happy and will soon be ready for a home. Her adoption fee is $75, including a spay/neuter voucher for when she gets older. The pet rescue is currently in need of postage stamps and dry cat food, especially Purina Cat Chow Complete and/or Purina One and Purina Kitten Chow. HHPR is a 501c3 non-profit corporation, a Maine state licensed pet rescue and all donations are tax-deductible. For more information, call 999-1075.
