Caribou Middle School sweeps meet

    PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Caribou swept middle school track and field titles in the Aroostook League during the May 27 championship meet held at the Gehrig Johnson Athletic Complex.
The Viking boys had the meet’s four top individual scorers in posting 95 points, which bested Presque Isle (82.5), Fort Fairfield (44), Valley Rivers of Fort Kent (23.5) and Union 122 (5) to grab the championship.
Caribou’s Dylan Paddleford was the high scorer with 22 points, followed by teammates Apollo Grondin (21), Caleb Libby (20) and Nic Sleeper (18.5). Randon Mortland of Presque Isle, who set an Aroostook League record in the 1,600 with a time of 4:58.62, scored 18.5 points to round out the top five.
The Caribou girls scored 149.5 points, with PI the runner-up with 84. Fort Fairfield was third (49.5), followed by Valley Rivers (30), Wisdom (26) and Union 122 (25).
Bailey Bellefleur of Wisdom scored a meet-high 26 points in the girls’ meet. Jo Jo Fields of Caribou was next with 23 and Elizabeth Findlen of Presque Isle was third with 22.5. Hope Shea and Alexis Rodriquez, both of Caribou, scored 22 and 21.5, respectively.
Caribou and Union 122 first-place winners in individual events were as follows:
Girls: 100-meter dash, Fields, 14.14 seconds; 400, Rodriquez, 1:08.65; 800, Adessa Judd, 2:51.92; 100 hurdles, Fields, 18.21 (school record); 4×200 relay, Caribou (Sheridan Blackstone, Willow Whitten, Mariah Mink and Adessa Judd), 2:12.88; shot put, Zoe Gerakaris, 32-3; and discus, Ashley Conroy, Union 122, 64-11.
Boys: 100, Grondin, 13.26; 200, Grondin, 27.07; long jump, Paddleford, 15-5; shot put, Sleeper, 38-11.25; and discus, Sleeper, 121-7 (school record).
