Spirit Award to be presented

Every year, a Northern Maine Soap Box Derby racer is honored with the Alicia Dudzinski Spirit Award.
Alicia passed away in 1998, at the young age of 12 from complications of her bone marrow transplant.
Alicia had many unique qualities for a young girl, including the smile on her face, no matter what was happening.
Alicia raced for three years in the local race and participated in a few rallies in Maine and New Hampshire. She was a huge cheerleader on the Soap Box Derby sidelines. It didn’t matter to her if she won or lost her heat. She was just happy to be racing.
You could always see her asking her competitors how they were doing. She would offer words of encouragement and give advice on how they should attack their next run. She was always cheering on her competitors.
This award is given in Alicia’s memory to the racer who exemplifies these qualities in the Soap Box Derby family.
