HOULTON, Maine — Local Adult Education Director, Otis Smith, has announced the retirement of Mary Murray from the RSU 29 Adult Education administrative assistant position at the end of the 2013-14 school year.
The position will be filled by Melody Gonya of Houlton. Gonya is a former student at Northern Maine Community College and a 2014 graduate of the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
Murray has been with Houlton Adult Education for 21 years. Prior to that, she was a teacher at Region Two Alternative Education.
“In her 21 years as an administrative assistant, she has demonstrated all of the qualities of an effective assistant to the entire staff and has been a compassionate helper and friend to all the staff and students whom she has known,” Smith said. “In retirement, Mary will spend more time with her husband, Ron, and with her grandchildren outside the state of Maine.”
Gonya lives in Houlton with her husband, Ken, and their three children. She is an adult education success story, having balanced raising a family and earning a college degree in psychology over a 10-year period.
