LITTLETON, Maine — An investigation commenced Saturday into a blaze that significantly damaged a vacant home in Littleton over the weekend.
Littleton Fire Chief Dwight Cowperthwaite said Monday that the fire that broke out at a home at 198 Framingham Road was suspicious.
The chief said late Monday afternoon that he was still gathering together information about the fire.
Twenty firefighters responded shortly before 3 p.m. with three engines and two tanker trucks, according to the chief, and found the home partially overtaken by the flames.
“We received mutual aid from Monticello,” he said. “A farmer initially made the call that the home was on fire after he smelled smoke in the area and went to investigate. There was no electricity going to the home, which was a two-story farmhouse.”
Cowperthwaite said he was not sure who owned the structure, which he estimated had about $75,000 in damage, primarily to the upper floors. He was not sure if there was any insurance on the structure or the last time that the home was occupied.
Sgt. Joel Davis of the state fire marshal’s office said Monday afternoon that he had no information to release.
