’Cat spring athletes honored

    PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle High School spring athletic awards night was held June 9, with members of the JV and varsity softball teams, JV and varsity baseball teams, varsity tennis teams and varsity track and field teams recognized for their participation during the recently-completed sports season.
The outstanding senior athlete awards were presented at the June 12 Class Day. A vote of members of the senior class, as well as coaches and administrators, collaborate to select the award. This year’s recipients are Sara Gilson and Tyler Seeley.
At the awards night, JV softball coach Mike Patenaude and assistant coach Katie Patenaude presented certificates to freshmen Faith Leavitt, Casey Lovely, Haley Moro, Amy Seeley, Abby Shaw, Madison Walton and manager Gwyneth Ortman; sophomores Alyssa Hewitt, Shelby Shaw and Alyssa Trombley; and juniors Chelsey Argraves, Sofia Crouse, Jaylee Farley, Tori Harvath, Megan McKnight, Vanessa Michaud, Amanda Palmer and Rachel Patenaude.
JV baseball coach George Knox presented certificates to freshmen Grant Bridges, Bradley Kinney, Jacob Kinney and managers Emma O’Connell and Victoria Williamson; sophomores Oliver Gerrish, Michael Mahon, Caleb Nadeau and Dakota Philbrook; and juniors Levon Francis, Bradley Guerrette, Kyle Nadeau, Cristian Nunez and Devin Smart.
Girls varsity tennis coach Monica Bearden handed out first-year letters to freshman Sarah Morneault; second-year letters to sophomores Michelle Cawley and Sedona Lucas and seniors Blair Bailey and Lora Ireland; and third-year letters to junior Hilary Boucher and senior Sara Gilson.
Boys varsity tennis coach Brian Massey gave first-year letters to freshman Denny Young, sophomore Tyler Ayotte and senior Andrew Dyer; a second-year letter to sophomore Byron Winslow; third-year letters to junior Chris Carroll and senior Mike Michaud; and a fourth-year letter to senior Liam Hughes.
Varsity softball coach Terry Cummings and his assistant, Daren Hunter, presented certificates to sophomore Alyssa Trombley and juniors Chelsy Argraves, Megan McKnight, Amanda Palmer and managers Jessica Cameron and Kate Leavitt. A first-year letter went to senior Molly O’Connell; second-year letters were presented to sophomores Hailey Cameron, Jillian Flynn and Olivia Hudson and juniors Erin Ackerson and Macy Desmond; third-year letters to junior Kelsey Gilson, Jordi Legassie and Megan Seward; and fourth-year letters to seniors Carly Bell and Shea Brown.
Girls varsity track and field coach Ron McAtee and his assistant, Mike Waugh, presented certificates to freshmen Emma Beaulieu, Meg Boone, Hannah Chalou, Jillian Jandreau, Skyler McAtee and Cali Quirion; sophomore Rachel Maxwell and junior Brynn Staples. Garnering first-year letters were freshmen Grace Player, Emily Sjoberg and Skylar Vogel and sophomore Madison Postell. Second-year letter winners were sophomores Emily Colligan, Abbie Estey, Mandy Graham, Karen Jones, Kerrigan LeBlanc, Regan Nelson and Alyssa Sweeney. Third-year letters went to junior Jessica Baldwin; while seniors Kaleigh Kinney and Jackie Lambert earned fourth-year letters.
Boys varsity track and field coach Lori Googins and her assistant, Jason Johnson, honored the following certificate recipients: freshmen Patrick Cash, Hunter Flynn, Wyatt Kennedy and Aaron Swanson; sophomores Andrew Lessard, Taylor Michaud and Cole Staples; and juniors Brian Fournier, John Freeman and Brenden Goulet. Earning first-year letters were freshmen Gavin Kelley and Khasen Lowe, sophomore Zachary Rice, junior David Cyr and seniors Josh Jones, Christian Lunn, Cyle McCleary, Joel Tewskbury and manager Alex Hemphill. Second-year letters went to sophomores Parker Lambert and Connor Murchison and senior Kyle MacCallum. Juniors Austin Albert, James Churchill and Keeghan Lowe and seniors Dustin Drabek and Trevor Levesque all earned third-year letters; while seniors Mitchell Ayotte and Isaac Estey received fourth-year letters.
On a different date due to the varsity baseball team’s playoff game in Bar Harbor on awards night, varsity baseball coach James York and assistant coach Derrick Kinney gave out certificates to sophomores Sam Gray and Cooper Madore and juniors Chase Norton and Cristian Nunez; first-year letters to sophomore Kyle Rider, junior manager Aubrie Gross and seniors Aaron Kofstad, Andrew Michaud, Frank Nunez and Conor Seward; second-year letters to juniors Ben Buckley and Andrew Paterson; third-year letters to seniors Josh Gordon and Karson Wilcox; and fourth-year letters to seniors Saul Nunez, Tyler Seeley and managers Paige Gagnon and Katelyn Michaud.
Wilcox was selected as the winner of the Aaron Archer Award in baseball.
Sweatshirt recipients, who accumulated six varsity letters in any combination of sports, were Carly Bell (in soccer and softball), Chris Carroll (skiing and tennis), Michelle Cawley (fall cheering, winter cheering and tennis), Emily Colligan (cross country, skiing and track and field), Isaac Estey (swimming and track and field), Josh Gordon (golf, basketball and baseball), Alex Hemphill (cross country manager, swimming and track and field manager), Liam Hughes (golf and tennis), Josh Jones (cross country, swimming and track and field), Kaleigh Kinney (soccer, basketball and track and field) and Jordi Legassie (soccer and softball).
Earning a jackets for lettering in one sport for four years were Mitchell Ayotte (track and field), Carly Bell (softball), Shea Brown (softball), Isaac Estey (track and field), Paige Gagnon (baseball manager), Liam Hughes (tennis) and Kaleigh Kinney (track and field). Other fourth-year letter winners who received their jacket for participation in a previous sport were Katelyn Michaud (baseball manager), Saul Nunez (baseball) and Tyler Seeley (baseball).
