Spud plans special racing event

    CARIBOU, Maine — Spud Speedway track owner Troy Haney has released the 2014 50th Anniversary  Celebration “Door to Door Since ’64” schedule for the Caribou race track.
Admission to the grandstands will be a family-friendly $5 for regular Saturday night racing. Special events will carry special pricing, which is included on the track website.
Included in the 13-race event schedule will be the inaugural Motorsports Fair July 10-13. Smokey’s Greater Shows will be set up at the Thompson Road track location each evening with their assortment of rides for the family. Indoor laser tag will be available as well as many traditional family-style games.
For the motorsports fans, there will be a bomber car race and “race your neighbor” experience on July 10, a six-truck Monster Truck show, the biggest in Maine, on July 11, while July 12 will feature the North vs. South Outlaw Sportsman race and Wicked Good Vintage Tour Race.
Maine Vintage Racing’s newest Hall of Fame inductees, Rodney “Chink” Maynard and Bobby Alexander, will be honored that evening as well. Anyone who has participated as a driver, owner or crew member, as well as racing fans, are encouraged to be at the Motorsports Fair that evening to pay tribute to Maynard and Alexander.
The Motorsports Fair will conclude July 13 with a classic car show featuring 50 years of production of the Ford Mustang. Classic car owners are encouraged to attend in addition to any Mustang owner with their car, regardless of year.
A “battle of the bands” in the track infield will provide a wide range of music for the Motorsports Fair finale.
