Alan Chamberlain has arrived from his home in West Point, Va. to spend the summer months at his cottage on Lower Mattawamkeag Lake. Right now he is busy installing new cabinets in some of the rooms and also enjoying the fishing at First Brook.
He caught one nice, goodsized trout one day and hopes to catch more, along with some perch. On Sunday, June 15, Tom Hawkes, along with son Chris and wife, Amanda and Joshua, daughter Michelle Walton and daughter, Jessica, who reside in Dunwoody, Georgia, arrived from Glenburn to spend the afternoon with Riva.
It was a busy day for all, as Michelle and Jessica hadn’t been in Maine for a few years and everyone traveled to Patten for lunch and Michelle and daughter visited with many relatives there. Michelle and daughter have since returned to Georgia and hope to return maybe later in the summer for a longer visit. A week or so ago I wrote about the party given for Charlene Webb’s 84th birthday, and noted that it was organized by husband Clayton and friend, Hope, when it fact, it was organized by Clayton and Ruth. Hope this clears up the little problem.
I am still seeing the little brown bunny appearing on my back lawn, but he stays really close to the woods in case he has to make a quick getaway. Saw a couple of purple finch at my feeders so am still putting out some bird feed to keep them happy, and also the little chickadees who still arrive looking for a hand out. I also have quite a few robins hopping around the lawns, especially after a rain when the angleworms are about and at least two large crows who appear every late afternoon and wait patiently for me to toss out some bread crumbs and when I do they swoop in very gracefully and eat them all in no time.
I haven’t seen any sign of the deer yet, but did see one the other day on my way back from the pool at Vacationland. She was walking down the road to the golf course, so I slowed way down and watched her lope off into the woods I always drive slowly there in case I see any wildlife, like bear and deer or moose.
