PRESQUE ISLE — A Main Street restaurant’s flair with one of Aroostook’s most loved vegetables, the potato, has gained recognition in the July issue of “Down East” magazine.
The Whole Potato Café and Commons, 428 Main St., received the award for Best of Maine Editors’ Choice for 2014’s Best Ways to Eat a Potato. Known for its organic cuisine, the eatery’s menu features seasonal fruits and vegetables and prides itself in using locally-grown organic produce.
The magazine notes at the Whole Potato, “a menu is built around the trademark tuber of Aroostook County showcases the versatility of the humble spud and the abundance of local meat and produce available in The County.”
In addition to dining, the article recognizes the restaurant for its support of education and the arts. The Whole Potato regularly showcases the talents of local musicians during open mic events, displays the work of area artists and serves as the site for such food-related activities as canning clinics.
