The Houlton 9-10-year-old all-stars took a tough loss in their first outing of the District 3 Little League double elimination baseball tournament on Sunday.
The Houlton all-stars came from behind, but ended up losing in the bottom of the sixth, 9-8, as Holbrook’s Jason Pangburn scored the game-winner on a passed ball with two outs.
Holbrook jumped out a 7-3 lead after three innings, but the Houlton all-stars chipped away with a run in the fourth and fifth innings to close the scoring gap. Houlton came back for a one-run lead, with three more runs in the top of the sixth. But, Holbrook walked away with the win, scoring twice in the bottom of the frame.
Isaiah Gentle doubled and Silas Graham had three singles, while Jed Gilpatrick, Collin Moody and Kurtis Reynolds each collected two singles. Adding base hits were Nolan Hodgkins, Brock Thompson and Jade Gentle. Moody and Thompson each drove in two runs, while Graham and I. Gentle each knocked in a run.
Graham scored twice for Houlton, with Gilpatrick, Moody, Reynolds, Hodgkins, Cody Johnson and Logan Bowmaster crossed the plate once for Houlton’s eight runs.
Combining on the mound for Houlton were Collin Moody, Graham and Nolan Hodgkins.
The Houlton 9-10 all-stars were scheduled to play an elimination game against Bangor East in Millinocket yesterday.
