     LETOURNEAU, Milford J., 89, ASHLAND & PRESQUE ISLE, at Caribou, July 1, 2014. Arrangements are under the care of Lajoie Funeral Home, Ashland.

     ASHLAND & PRESQUE ISLE – Milford J. Letourneau, 89, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Maine Veterans Home, Caribou, after a long illness. He was born October 22, 1924, in Ashland, a son of the late Peter and Almeda (Bell) Letourneau.  American Flag Color
    Milford enlisted with the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served as a seaman aboard a Landing Ship Transport during World War II Pacific Theater Operations and fought in the Battle of Leyte. He received his Honorable Discharge in 1946. Following his return to Ashland, he married Lillian Leach, together raising four children. He worked many years as a forester for local lumber and paper companies before his retirement in 1989.
    He was a skilled gardener and took great pride tending to his plants. Milford always had time to chat with the many people who stopped by to admire his garden, and he was always willing to share his bounties with friends, family and visitors.
    The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to Dr. Wood and Dr. Faloon for their many years of attentive care.
    He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lillian (Leach) Letourneau of Presque Isle; two sons, Terry Letourneau and Dale Letourneau, both of Ashland; a daughter, Susan Durrell of Ashland; five grandchildren, Kenny, David and Jennifer Letourneau, Wendy McKinney and Stacy Durrell; and several great-grandchildren.
    Besides his parents, Milford was predeceased by a son, Dennis Letourneau; six brothers and a sister.
    Relatives and friends greeted the family 12 noon – 2 p.m., on Monday, July 7, 2014, at Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St., Ashland. A graveside service with military honors followed at 2:30 p.m., at Ashland Municipal Cemetery. Reception was announced following the services.
