On Saturday, July 12, the Oakfield Community High School Alumni will be meeting at the Southern Aroostook Community School in Dyer Brook. We are hoping that many of the alumni from the years 1935-76 will be able to attend this great time of reminiscing and visiting with folks they have not seen for a long time. We have people traveling from Florida, California, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine etc.
to attend this year. Are you one of them? If not, you are missing out! We currently have approximately 100 folks that have preregistered. If you have not preregistered, please feel free to come join us. We will have door prizes to be drawn throughout the evening, a quilt raffle, and a short auction following the banquet to raise money for scholarships. The banquet starts at 6 p.m. at the cost of $25 per person.
Mary Miller does a wonderful job displaying pictures in the gym of all alumni and historical pictures of the Town of Oakfield and surrounding areas. She utilizes all of the walls and covers many tables with memorabilia. The alumni association also has many copies of the yearbooks published of OCHS on display along with photo albums of Russell Byron and Lionel Lord’s collection. If the public would like to visit this display, you may do so on Saturday, July 12, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. There will also be a quilt displayed that was made several years ago by the River Road ladies and a quilt made by various people in Oakfield which depicts different homes, scenic views and places in Oakfield.
The Oakfield Railroad Museum will be open from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for people to visit. Also, the Universalist Church will be open for people to tour on Saturday. The committee that has been involved with restoring the church will be pleased to show the public what they have done and what their future plans involve.
On Sunday, July 13, the American Legion Post 52 will be serving a public breakfast at the Smoki Haulers Snowmobile Club in Oakfield. The breakfast will be held from 7:30-10 a.m.
