CARIBOU & FORT FAIRFIELD – Galen E. Thibeau, 76, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at his Caribou home. He was born May 29, 1938, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Clarence and Martha (Cote) Thibeau.
Galen was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School Class of 1956, attended the University of Maine, Orono, and went on to serve his country with the United States Army. Upon his discharge from the military, Galen returned to Fort Fairfield and was married to Roberta Sirois. He engaged in potato farming with his father and then for himself for many years. Galen was a lifelong communicant of both the Holy Rosary and St. Denis Catholic Churches. He was a former 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council Number 1753, Fort Fairfield where he served as Grand Knight. Galen will be remembered by all who knew him as a proud father, loving grandfather and caring friend. He was a kind and giving person who always found a way to find the good in everyone he met. He loved sports, especially basketball, football and harness racing and was known as a person who could make anyone laugh and was always able to rise up those who were at their lowest. His charismatic personality and laugh will be remembered by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Galen was predeceased by two brothers, twin brother Gary C. Thibeau and David Thibeau; one sister, Dianne M. Giberson; nephew and godson, H. Scott Giberson. He is survived by wife, Roberta (Sirois) Thibeau; two sons, Marc J. Thibeau and his wife, Angela of Stratham, NH, and Stephen R. Thibeau and his wife, Susan of Berwick; two daughters, Michele A. Morrison and her husband, Dale of Presque Isle, and Gayle E. Thibeau of Portland; three brothers, Charles, Robert and Dana Thibeau, all of California; one sister, Cynthia Thibeau of Massachusetts; six grandchildren, Timothy, Andrew and Melissa Morrison, all of Presque Isle, Arielle and Rory Thibeau of Berwick, and Heather Thibeau of Stratham, NH; and longtime friend, Joanne Jandreau.
Friends called 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. Interment will follow at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
