    FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The ninth annual Girls’ “County” Basketball Shootout will be held Friday and Saturday, July 25 and 26.
The tournament is open to high school girls teams in Class C and D throughout the state, as well as Canadian teams. Each team plays a minimum of four games and a maximum of six, with the first- and second-place teams in each of the four pools moving on to the quarterfinals. A consolation of third- and fourth-place teams will also take place.
All players will receive a “County” Shootout T-shirt and the winning team will receive individual awards and a team trophy. All-tournament players selected will also receive individual awards. A three-point contest will take place at halftime of each game, with each player allowed to participate once. The overall winner and runner-up will receive awards.
Teams participating in the past from downstate include Stearns of Millinocket, Schenck of East Millinocket, Penobscot Valley of Howland, Woodland, Calais, Washington Academy of East Machias, Shead of Eastport and Machias. Several local teams and many from Canada have also competed.
Fans are invited to attend and a one-time fee will get them into all the games.
