PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Transformations Ministries, Inc. (TMI) was recently awarded a $4,000 grant from the Pinetree Fund for Aroostook County of the Maine Community Foundation to develop a community education series on sustainable living practices. This 9-month series will be conducted on a monthly basis throughout the 2014-15 academic year.
“This grant will allow us to strengthen education, networking, collaboration, and resource development within the county,” said Nancy Nichols, TMI’s executive director. “Being the resourceful people we are, residents of Aroostook County are continually seeking innovative ways to develop new skill sets, strengthen our rural communities, and expand our collaboration with regional partners.”
TMI was established in 2006 as an educational non-profit organization. Its mission is to educate, unite, and mobilize people and communities to effectively meet the various needs of their regions — whether relational, material or spiritual. TMI accomplishes this mission through training, education and strategic regional partnerships. Transformations Ministries Canada was launched in 2012 with a similar mission.
TMI is seeking volunteer instructors to provide training on any number of potential topics related to sustainable living practices. Possible topics include candle making, dairy goats, weaving, blacksmithing, knife-sharpening, gardening, raising chickens, beekeeping, building chicken coops, emergency preparedness, herbal remedies, business practices and product marketing, and canning.
This series will include nine monthly events running from September 2014 through June 2015. Sessions will be held from 9 a.m.-noon on the fourth Saturday of each month (excluding December). All classes will be held on site at Transformations Ministries, 36 North St. in Presque Isle. Advertising, audio-visual equipment, and supplies will all be provided by TMI.
