The Whittier Congregational Church will have its annual Trash and Treasure sale on Saturday, July 26, starting at 9 a.m. There will be a great variety of articles for sale, plus a table full of good home-baked goodies and old-fashioned, homemade ice cream will be available during this sale. It’s a fun place to be where you can meet old friends and make new ones plus find new treasures to take home.

Recent guests of Peter and Cheryl Connelly have been his brother and wife, Joe and Theresa Connelly. They arrived from Amherst, N.H. and stayed several days enjoying the area and looking over the enterprises Peter and Cheryl have accomplished and dining at the former red brick garage now a very popular restaurant called The River Cafe.
I am still putting out sunflower seeds for my gold finches, purple finches and, of course, my faithful chickadees. I saw something that surprised me the other day. I happened to look out my window to check the feeders and there was a small woodpecker hanging on my hummingbird feeder and taking long sips of the sugar and water syrup. It was there for some time and really seemed to enjoy it.
My bee balm is now in blossom so have had the hummingbirds flying to them to get their food and now the level of syrup in the hummingbird feeder is way down so will fill it up soon. Saw my neighbor’s big fluffy, multi-colored cat by my barn the other day, apparently waiting patiently for the groundhog to appear.
There has been one seen lately going into the barn and guess the cat knows it. She visits in my area quite a lot but hasn’t harassed my feathered friends as far as I know. I haven’t seen any rabbits or deer in my back lawn for some time … just a few crows now and then.
