Of local interest — Robt. McNally has sold his restaurant on Court St. to Mrs. Flora Lougee, proprietor of the Home Restaurant and he has opened a Grocery and Confectionary store on Kendall St. in the Hogan Bldg. H. H. Westervelt has purchased the residence on Brook St. where he has been living the past year of John A. Riley.
Moving pictures ‘on the move’ — Headed by Rev. Charles Stelzle D. D., a company has been formed to promote the use of moving pictures among the churches of the various denominations. There is no reason why the universally popular “movie” should not be made a distinct help for the inculcation of moral and spiritual truth.

First-hand coverage of Donn Fendler story — Houlton and all Southern Aroostook were agog late Tuesday afternoon when news was first received that Donn Fendler, 12-year-old Boy Scout of Rye, N.Y., had emerged dramatically and miraculously from the thick tangle of the Mt. Katahdin area wilderness. Two Pioneer Times reporters, Neal A. Robertson and James L. Ross, were among the first to reach Sherman and Stacyville and to get details of the boy’s discovery and eight day experiences.

Smyrna Mills’ Twinkle Christmas Club meets — The Twinkle Christmas Club met Wednesday evening with Mrs. Alma Lilley. The door prize was won by Mrs. Rachael Peters. Others attending were Shirley Roy, Lucile Mitchell, Marlene Lawlor, Alice McManus and Donna Furrow.
Bids open on interstate expansion — Bids on the first project for interstate construction in Aroostook County will be opened by the State Highway Commission Aug. 5. The grading project is located in Ludlow along the 20-mile section of I-95 from Dyer Brook to the Canadian boundary in Houlton.

FINALS BOUND — “Nuthin’ Fancy,” featuring Don Church, left, and Ted Bither of Linneus were first-place winners in the County Music Showdown in Presque Isle and will move on to the state finals in Skowhegan. Church was also named top instrumentalist in Battle of the Bands at the Houlton Agricultural Fair.
Stewart/Ingraham June wedding — Darcy Dawn Stewart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Brown of Houlton, and Barry Alan Ingraham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ingraham of Cary, were married June 24 at the Cary Baptist Church. The double-ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Linwood Putnam, great-uncle of the groom.
Outdoor baptism held by Baptist Church — An outdoor service of Believer’s Baptism will be held by the Military Street Baptist Church in front of the home of Sonny and Carolyn Carpenter at Nickerson Lake on Sunday. Being baptized are Robert and Jeri Smith and their children Kris and Gretchin; Jamie and Eric Flewelling.
