Island Falls Summerfest Parade

To the editor:
The theme for this year’s parade and for Summerfest, July 25-Aug. 2, events is Peace, Love and Tie Dye Days, which leads to a 1960s – ‘70s focus. There should be lots of ideas available and we’re hoping for more participation. We intend to lead our parade (Aug. 2) with a vehicle carrying Vietnam era veterans (1965-1975). If you served from the Island Falls area in those years, please plan to participate.

Businesses, families, organizations and individuals are encouraged to enter to make our parade bigger and better. The committee is asking anyone who will enter the parade to call Phil Faulkner at 463-2471 to register their entry.
Due to I-95 repairs last year and rebuilding of the Rt. 2 bridge previously, changes had been made in the start-up for the Summerfest parade and heavy rain in 2013 lessened the entries. This year we will go back to line-up on the Merriman Road, but the judging for first-, second- and third-place in-theme entries will be done by the public after the parade. A booth will be set up for voting. Invitations have gone out to businesses and organizations and there is information around town. Any questions may be directed to Phil Faulkner or Becky Drew at 463-2372.
