     KNIGHT, Vera Bernice, 96, MAINE & NEW HAMPSHIRE, at Wolfeboro, NH, July 1, 2014.

    MAINE & NEW HAMPSHIRE – Vera Bernice Knight, 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by her two daughters July 1, 2014, in Wolfeboro, NH. She was born in Winn, ME, to John and Ethel Coombs on May 21, 1918.
    Vera went to High School in Winn and graduated in 1936. She then went on to earn a degree from Maine Beauty School in Bangor, ME. She was owner and operator of Vera’s Beauty Salon in Fort Fairfield, ME, for over thirty years. Vera’s life was filled with family and friends, a most important aspect of her world. Her oil paintings are a treasure to many family members. Vera’s love for reading gave her a diversified outlook on life. Her positive attitude, sense of humor, kindness and concern for others always prevailed.
    An article “Rite of Passage” written about Vera when she retired said “she had a big dose of artistic flair in decorating, dress, painting, flower arranging…..a simpatico with nature.” One of her favorite memories after retiring was her trip to Hawaii with her sister Ruth. Vera moved to Wolfeboro, NH, in 2001 to be closer to her daughters.
    Vera was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ethel; husband, Selwood Knight; brother, Homer Coombs; and beloved granddaughter, Eryn Vera Ames.
    Vera is survived by her daughters, Linda Knight of Newburyport, MA, Diane Ames of Wolfeboro, NH; sister, Ruth Cogswell of Arlington, TX; grandson, Matthew Billings of Newburyport, MA; niece, Jean Pomeroy of Macon, GA; nephews, Peter and Tim Cogswell of Arlington, TX; nephew, Dwight Coombs of Stuart, FL; nephew, John Coombs of Sugarland, TX; and a cousin, Lois Nix of New York City.
    The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Wolfeboro Bay where Vera resided for the past two years and SolAmor Hospice for their support and care.
