PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Probus Club of Aroostook met at Northern Maine Community College’s Reed Commons July 17, with 16 members present.
After the secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read, the new slate of officers was announced as follows: president, Dana Crory; vice president, Mellen Fitzherbert; secretary, Valerie Lunn; treasurer, Gerald Gallagher; program chairperson, Carolyn Watson; and nominating committee, Dick Barker, Linda Swett and Peggy Woodman.
Also at the meeting, Lynwood Winslow was introduced as the special speaker. A lifelong resident of the Mapleton/Presque Isle area, Winslow graduated from the local school system and chose to remain and work in the community. He is the general manager of MPG Truck and Tractor and serves as the treasurer of the Northern Maine Fair Association.
A past president of the fair association, Winslow reflected on some of the fair’s history and explained what is being offered at this year’s fair.
James Gantnier of Ashland District High School was the recipient of a $750 college scholarship from the Probus Club. He plans on enrolling in the automotive and farm machinery course at NMCC.
The next meeting will take place Aug. 21 beginning at 10 a.m. at Reed Commons. It will be followed by a luncheon. The club will be celebrating its 20th anniversary and will be honored by a representative from Canada, Steve Campbell. All members, past or present, as well as the public are encouraged to attend.
