PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — After a sparkling round of 68 on Saturday, Greg Martin of Ellsworth held on to win the 47th Coca-Cola Spudland Open, which took place over the weekend at Presque Isle Country Club.  Martin, who competes for the Husson University golf team, had a three-stroke lead entering play on Sunday and ended up with a 145 for the tournament and one stroke ahead of runner-up Matthew Madore, formerly of Presque Isle and now residing in Manchester, N.H.
On the 18th hole Sunday, Madore had a 35-foot putt attempt that would have tied Martin, but it curled just off to the right.
Ian Gervais of Houlton, who was in second place after 18 holes, was three back with a 178. Ralph Michaud of Presque Isle, who had Sunday’s low round with a 71, was four back with a 149 and captured his second consecutive Joseph J. Freeman Award with the lowest gross score for a PICC member. Lance Bernier of Lincoln finished five back with a 150.
Overall low net went to Steven Smith of Calais with a 131.
