The Northern Maine Class “E” State Softball Tournament was held July 19 and 20, with Napa Auto Parts of Ellsworth going undefeated and beating County Boys of Caribou/New Sweden in the finals.
The tournament has been growing the past few years, with 13 teams participating in the most recent two-day event. Squads from Calais, Ellsworth, Bangor, Presque Isle and Caribou played on fields in Caribou and New Sweden to complete the three-game guaranteed tournament bracket.
The championship, played at Teague Park in Caribou, saw Napa Auto Parts and County Boys meet and in a close game, the team from Ellsworth pulled off an 11-9 victory to garner the title of 2014 Maine ASA Class “E” state champions.
The tournament MVP award was given to shortstop Brad Folmer of Napa Auto Parts.
Buck Construction of Presque Isle placed third in the event and T.W. Willard of Caribou was fourth.
Other teams competing for the title were Dysarts, Outlaws, Down East Billiards, Soule Masonry, Miles Motor Sports, The Crew, Jim’s Auto, Silver Bullets and H.W.G.
