‘Pie Run’ is Saturday in Island Falls

Saturday’s 5K Run/Walk in Island Falls is tastefully organized. After all, it is dubbed the Pie Run. Instead of runners and walkers winning trophies or ribbons, they receive their choice of a homemade pie or dessert.
In its 22nd year, the Pie Run will start at 9 a.m. at the Island Falls Municipal Building. Participants should try to arrive by 8:30 a.m. for registration.

For those who have not participated in the “Pie Run”, take exit 276 off I-95 and go through town driving to the Island Falls Municipal Building.
The race will revert back to the traditional course of running through the town of Island Falls now that the construction is completed. There is a water station at the half-way point plus refreshments after the race.
A Kids’ Run for ages 9 and under will be held at 8:45 a.m. The children’s race is a half-mile course. Last year’s winner was Lucas Streinz, 8, followed by Teanne Ewings, 6, and Connor Walker, 8.
Thomas Beckum (17.26) and Lauren Hodge (20.27) were the overall winners of last year’s Pie Run, which drew 46 runners and 25 walkers.
In addition to awards in all age categories, even over age 70, there are more door prizes to be given away from generous local businesses from the southern Aroostook area. After all the winners are announced an auction follows on the home-baked goods that remain.
Registration may be made in advance ($12) or the day of the race ($15). To enter the race, email Walker at jswalkerinc@gmail.com for a race form or stop by the town office in Island Falls and pick one up for pre-registration.
Net proceeds from the race will benefit the Agape Food Pantry.
