Presque Isle hosts singles tourney
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Northern Maine Community Recreation Association’s summer championship season kicked off last Tuesday with the tennis singles tournament held at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
Twenty four players from both Caribou and Presque Isle participated.
In the 10-12 girls’ division, Madison Stratton defeated Livia Bouchard, 8-2, in an all-Caribou final.
For the boys, Caribou’s Parker Deprey scored an 8-0 triumph over his younger brother, Sawyer, to win the championship.
In 13-15 girls, Gabrielle Marquis of Caribou defeated Sarah Morneault of PI in the title match, 8-3.
On the boys’ side, Brennen Poitras of Caribou downed Gabe Rand of Caribou, 8-5, in a division which included eight participants — the most of all the age groups.
Hilary Boucher of Presque Isle was uncontested in taking the trophy for the 16-18 girls’ category, while Michael Marquis of Caribou overwhelmed PI’s Byron Winslow in the boys’ final.
The NMCRA doubles tennis tournament will take place today in Caribou beginning at 9 a.m.
