Undefeated Swedes are playoff favorites

    CARIBOU, Maine — The local co-ed softball league includes seven teams who have been playing since late-May.
The Swedes lead the way with a 18-0 record, followed by Pat’s Pizza and Van Buren Hardware (both 11-5), Par & Grill (9-7), DFAS (4-14), IGA/Fort Fairfield Fire Department (3-14) and USBP (3-14).
In recent action, Van Buren Hardware triumphed over USBP, 17-3, while USBP bounced back to edge  DFAS, 6-5, in games taking place July 16.
A triple-header was played July 21, with Swedes trouncing Van Buren Hardware, 21-1; Par & Grill doubling up on USBP, 12-6; and IGA/Fort Fairfield Fire Department besting Par & Grill, 16-7.
On Friday, it was Swedes 19, Pat’s Pizza 2 and USBP 16, DFAS 15.
Tonight’s scheduled games: Par & Grill vs. Van Buren Hardware, 6 p.m.; Pat’s Pizza vs. Van Buren Hardware, 7 p.m.; USBP vs. Par & Grill, 8 p.m.; and IGA/FFFD vs. Pat’s Pizza, 9 p.m.
The playoffs will begin Friday and continue at least into next week.
