Sun finally shines on Caribou Cares about Kids Parade

CARIBOU, Maine — For the first time in years, the clouds parted and made way for a dry Caribou Cares about Kids Parade on Aug. 8 — except for those following the Cub Scouts entry, which featured a water-balloon-launching trebuchet.

Though only three awards were given out for the annual parade, there were four recipients.
Director of the Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce William Tasker announced on Monday that the winner of the Best in Parade Award is Cary Medical Center.
Winning Best Spirit Award was the Maine Veterans Home, and it was a tie between Sleeper’s and the Caribou City Employees for the Best Use of Theme Award.
This year’s parade theme was Caribou: Past, Present, Future, and it was the first time that Logan Clark Sherman, 9, of Presque Isle attended the parade.
Pamela Sherman, Logan’s mom, is the marketing manager for Aroostook Savings and Loan and was asked to judge the parade, having helped out the same way a previous year.
Logan tagged along to watch the parade but found something unexpected when he got there: the 9-year-old was asked if he could help judge it.
“I was really nervous,” he said. “I really just looked at them and saw which ones I liked.”
His personal favorite was the Boy Scout float, “because they had that big catapult on the back.”
Overall, Logan said that the parade was really cool and he liked it — plus he still got the candy and goodies from the parade even up in the judge’s stand.
If any organizations need help in the future judging parades, Logan said he’ll offer to do it again.
