She’s in the right place at the right time. Taylor Quint of Hodgdon was hired July 28 to coach both the varsity cross country and girls basketball teams for the upcoming year.
We are very pleased to have Taylor join us,” said GHCA Athletic Director Barrett Potter. “She is going to be a great representative for our school and our athletic programs.”
Quint, a 2012 Hodgdon High School graduate, is readying for the challenges of stepping into a varsity coaching position.
“I am so excited to be a part of the athletic program of GHCA and sharing my passion for Christ and sports,” she said. “I think with any new job comes a bit of nervousness, but I am more excited! I know there will be a learning curve and adjustment time, but I am thankful for God’s grace in it all.”

After high school, Quint attended Eastern Nazarene College and the University of Maine at Presque Isle where she was a member of both the women’s basketball and cross country teams, earning All-Conference First Team honors in cross country. While at UMPI, she also worked as a student assistant coach under Coach Tracy Guerrette, who is now the director of basketball operations for the UMaine women’s basketball team.
“My college athletics at both colleges is very precious to me,” said Quint. “It was in that time that I came to know what I was capable of while experiencing and learning the sports I love. I am forever grateful for the impact of my coaches on my life and I can hope that I can have the same on the athletes I have the privilege of coaching.”
Quint has coached Hodgdon Mill Pond School’s junior high girls basketball team, the Hodgdon AYBL 7-8 grade team, as well as worked with Coach Guerrette at the UMaine summer basketball camps.
Quint wants her players to be competitors.
“I want the athletes to be intentional with their purpose and mission,” she said. “To care about precision, practices, races, games, consistency, each other and excellence.”
Quint began varsity cross-country practice last Monday and will begin basketball in November. She hopes her student-athletes leave her programs differently than when they came.
“I want my players to  learn the game,” she said. “And more importantly, I hope my players will learn to pursue their dreams and goals with passion. To overcome obstacles and keep focused and recognize the impact they can have on the world to make a difference. I want them to be honored to be on a team with their teammates and build into each other and represent the Lord and GHCA well.”
Quint has been actively involved as a Huddle Leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes program in Presque Isle and she attends the Military Street Baptist Church. She currently is taking online exercise science classes through Concordia University with a graduate focus on coaching.
“Coaching is kind of in my blood. I grew to love it growing up with my Dad as a coach,” she said with a smile.
