Letter misrepresented CRCM’s mission

To the editor:
As a concerned citizen who attended several meetings of the Citizens for Responsible City Management, I cannot sit idly by and let Councilor Theriault’s statements to the Aroostook Republican stand without further comment.

When I was asked to attend the meetings, the group had a mission statement and proper committee structure in place. The discussions centered around increasing taxes, eliminating unnecessary government waste, and introducing the concept of zero-based budgeting. I was asked to give a presentation to the committee regarding zero-based budgeting and that was included on the agenda for one of the meetings. As secretary of the Committee, Councilor Theriault is well aware of this.
While I must admit that a positive outcome of the Committee may have contributed to a change in city management, it was never stated in the mission statement. I would ask that if there is any member of the Citizens for Responsible City Management out there who has a copy of the mission statement to please provide it to the Aroostook Republican for publication so that this blatant misrepresentation of their work can be honestly presented to the Republican readers.
