Pet Talk

We have told you in the past that in rescue, day-by-day, you just never know what will walk in the doors. well the last couple months has been no exception. We have come to work and found cats in cages by the door, kittens in boxes and dogs dumped outside. We take them in, do all we can to care for them and then find them homes that will love them and treat them like the precious souls they are. Well, when the phone rings and its animal welfare, we know we are needed and like the others, do all we can and more. On June 24, that was no different.
We got a call early that day from animal welfare about some dogs they were taking and something particular they really wanted us to help with. This was a mom and 10 three-week-old puppies. We didn’t really have the room, but we know this is who we are and what we do. So we said ‘yes’ and went into setting up and planning mode as we waited for their arrival.

When they arrived, we had our puppy room all set up. Momma dog was so thin, she had a hard time moving around. She was so tired and hungry. It was apparent to us after sitting with them all, that mom was not physically well enough to feed them. So we decided to spilt the pups up and each of us take five home. Pam and I and bottle-feed them. Now if you have never bottle-fed, it sounds glamorous, but it is like having a baby, times five. It is up every 2-3 hours, feeding and cleaning. We knew it would be hard work, but it was the only way they would survive and that mom could get healthier. So for three weeks, we took them back and forth to work, being their “moms.”
Momma dog spent some time here with us, gaining weight and getting healthy enough to be spayed. She developed mastitis as well as an infection. We gave her meds and did what the vet wanted and it all cleared up. She was spayed and did well for the surgery. For the past couple weeks, she has been in foster care and we are happy to say she is ready for adoption! You can check her out on our Facebook page.
Well after weeks of bottle-feeding, midnight cleanings and so much more, the 10 puppies are also ready for their new homes. They are about 10 weeks old, spayed or neutered and happily waiting for a home to call their own. They are pitbull/lab mixes. You can also see their pictures on our Facebook page.
This rescue took a team. My wonderful staff was amazing with the cleanings, feedings and so much more. All of you stepped up, donating supplies and money to help us take care of this crew.
We could not have saved them without you. It’s amazing to watch the day to day transformations on rescues like these. To know you helped them survive and see them go into wonderful families is an amazing feeling. It is something we can do day in and day out because of our staff, volunteers, fosters and transporters.
