Ricker Rumblings

What a beautiful day this is! I wonder if anyone caught the Balloon Fest in Presque Isle? Apparently it went well. I would love to be in one of those balloons. Maybe next year, who knows!

One gorgeous night last week Margaret Drew filled her little car and drove to Houlton Farms Dairy. We, Sadie Carmichael, Gerry Dunn, Lavina Byron and yours truly all had sundaes and cones of their favorite ice cream. It was Sadie’s first trip of the summer to the dairy bar and we enjoyed it immensely.
On Tuesday of last week, the a capella group consisting of Harry Roper, Douglas Dieckman, Sharon Lowery and Karen Clar sang several numbers. I had to leave early but what I heard was delightful. Attending from Ricker were Millie Parmigiani, Linda Wood, Connie Barry, Lavina Byron, Gerry Dunn, Peggy Robinson and friend, Joyce Bryant. Robin Chambers. Thank you friends for bringing this program to Ricker Plaza.
Our sympathy is extended to all the families of Tim McAtee and Maddie Goodwin. I knew both. Maddie was a lovely person. I remember Tim when he worked with his father Joe. Lots of memories.
One day one of my friends and I were on the outdoor swing and a lady came by and gave us some great potatoes. Now isn’t that a nice thing to do and thank you very much for thinking of us. Belle Broder, a former neighbor of mine when I lived on Columbia Street, has returned from Chicago where she attended the wedding of her granddaughter Elizabeth. Elizabeth is the daughter of Rick and Beatrice Broder-Oldach of Ohio.
On Saturday, I heard a tap on the door and to my surprise it was Lavina Byron showing off her great-grandsons, identical grandsons of Vina’s daughter, Carol, and her husband. I have seen the twins’ pictures many times on Vina’s door, but never in person. So beautiful are these boys, blond with a little curl and so identical. They could easily be models!
On Friday, I attended the Houlton Pioneer Times barbecue. It was very good, as always. I felt I should have been behind the counter helping. One thing about these affairs, you always see your friends.
About angels: “All God’s angels come to us disguised.” (James Russell Lowell) I’ve had bad news this week about family—one is in the hospital, very serious, and a death. So hard for families but we all survive it one way or another with God’s help.
On our bulletin board is posted the following: Country Music Jam and Dance featuring the Wagon Wheel Country Music Band (from Southern Aroostook) August 30, 6-9 p.m. at Water’s Edge RV Resort, Route 162, Sinclair, Maine, donations, 50/50 drawing.
That’s it for this week folks. Keep happy and stay healthy.
Sadie Carmichael attended the first birthday party of her great-granddaughter, Sadie Lynn Carmichael. They had a great time. Hannah, who likes sandals and “flip-flops,” said “Grammy, how come you always wear whole shoes?” What a precious story! Better write that one in a book, Sadie.
Patrick Friel returned to Ricker Plaza from Houlton Regional Hospital following a stroke several months ago. I’ve seen Patrick in the parking lot wheeling around. Good luck, Pat, and glad to see you home. Thanks.
