Loretta “Cookie” Allen
ALLEN, Loretta “Cookie”, 70, PRESQUE ISLE, August 23, 2014. A Mass of Christian burial will will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Presque Isle. Arrangements are under the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.
PRESQUE ISLE – Loretta “Cookie” Allen, 70, died peacefully at her home in Presque Isle on August 23, 2014, after a brief illness. She was born on March 27, 1944, the daughter of Rellon and Sadie (Coty) Allen of Presque Isle.
She worked as rectory secretary at St. Mary’s Parish in Presque Isle for over 40 years. Cookie will be remembered as a devoted friend to many, as well as for her handcrafts, needlework, and beautifully decorated cakes. She traveled frequently to memorable destinations, including Denmark and Ireland, and particularly enjoyed her many visits with dear friends at Briggs’ Stables in Hanover, Mass. She was a past member of the Daughters of Isabella and active organizer of Presque Isle High School’s class of 1962 reunions.
Cookie was a devoted daughter, beloved sister, aunt, and special friend of Hank & Helena Ford and their children. She was especially grateful for the loving care and compassion extended to her and her family by Dr. Vatsala Kirtani.
She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Allen, and Annabelle (“Nan”) McGlauflin and husband, Phil; two brothers and their wives: Rellon Jr. (“Sonny”) and Jackie, and Kenneth and Carol, all of Presque Isle; two sisters-in-law: Joyce Allen of Presque Isle, and Charlotte Allen of Easton; a special brother, John Powers of Presque Isle; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, and three brothers: George, Robert and Larry.
Friends are invited to gather at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, August 28, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Parish of the Precious Blood, Presque Isle.
