MONTICELLO, Maine — Three people were injured Sunday evening when a dune buggy collided with a vehicle on U.S. Route 1.
Josiah Nash, 27, of Blaine was traveling southbound in a 1967 Volkswagen dune buggy at about 6:30 p.m. when he was struck head-on by 71-year-old Barbara Watson of Monticello. Watson, who as driving a 2002 Ford Taurus, was attempting to turn left onto Silver Street from the northbound lane.
Nash and his passenger, Adam Grant, 29, of Bridgewater were ejected from the dune buggy and suffered serious injuries. All three individuals were transported to Houlton Regional Hospital for treatment. Grant and Nash were later transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Speed was not a factor according to the accident report. Both vehicles sustained significant damage in the crash. Watson was wearing her seatbelt. The crash remains under investigation.
Trooper Jillian Monahan responded and was assisted by other members of the Maine State Police, Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Border Patrol and Monticello Fire Department.
